WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 SEALING RING, CABLE SPLICING ENCLOSURE, AND METHOD OF SEALING CABLE IN CABLE SPLICING ENCLOSURE CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION 5 This application claims the benefit of Chinese Patent Application No. 201210037494.1 filed on February 20, 2012 in the State Intellectual Property Office of China, the whole disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 10 Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a cable splicing device for sealing a part of a cable to be spliced, more particularly, relates to a sealing ring capable of sealing a cable passage, a cable splicing enclosure comprising the sealing ring, and a method of sealing a cable in the cable splicing enclosure. 15 Description of the Related Art A cable splicing enclosure, for example, an optic cable splicing box or an electric cable connection cabinet, is a box for connecting two or more cables. The cable splicing enclosure is provided with a cable passage to allow the cables to be spliced to pass 20 therethrough. When the cable splicing enclosure is in use, it is necessary to seal not only the body of the cable splicing enclosure, but also the cable passage. Generally, in a conventional cable splicing enclosure, a sealing ring is disposed in the cable passage to seal the cable passage. During sealing the cable passage, firstly sleeving the sealing ring on a cable to be spliced, then passing the cable through the cable passage, and then fixing the sealing ring in 25 the cable passage to seal the cable passage. However, the above mentioned sealing 1 ring only can be applied in a case where a WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 -2 joint end of the cable to be spliced passes through the cable passage and is spliced then. That is, the sealing ring cannot be applied in other cases, for example, where the cable to be spliced has been pre-embedded in the cable passage or in a case where one part of the cable is cut to be spliced to another cable and the other part of the cable is still in a connection 5 state. In these cases, since there is no a joint end of the cable through which the sealing ring can be passed onto the cable, the conventional sealing method with the sealing ring cannot be applied. Accordingly, in the conventional cable splicing enclosure, the cable is wound with an adhesive tape by a plurality of layers until the part of the cable wound with the adhesive tape has a diameter substantively corresponding to the diameter of the cable 10 passage, and the part of the cable wound with the adhesive tape is fixed in the cable passage to seal the cable passage. Since it needs manually winding the cable with the adhesive tape circle by circle, this sealing method is very complicated and inconvenient. Furthermore, it is difficult to achieve a stable and reliable sealing performance for the cable passage because the manual winding operation is unreliable in the quality. 15 A Chinese Patent Publication No.CN201876580U discloses an elastic sealing ring 200 provided in a cable passage as shown in Fig.8. The sealing ring 200 comprises a closeable side opening 201 having opposite fitting surfaces and radially running through the sealing ring 200. Accordingly, a part of a cable 300 can be radially put into an inner cylindrical space of the sealing ring 200 through the side opening 201 without needing to wind an 20 adhesive tape around the cable layer by layer, and it is very convenient. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been made to overcome or alleviate at least one aspect of the above mentioned disadvantages. 25 Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a sealing ring for sealing a cable passage as well as a cable splicing enclosure comprising the sealing ring, wherein WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 -3 the inner diameter of the elastic sealing ring provided in the cable passage can be changed according to various cables with different outer diameters. According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a sealing ring for a cable, comprising: a ring body formed by winding an elastic tape with adjacent elastic tape 5 layers of the elastic tape being detachably adhered to each other, and the ring body having a shrinkable side opening formed by radially cutting the ring body and configured to radially run through the ring body so that the cable can be radially put inside the ring body through the shrinkable side opening; and an extension portion configured to extend from the outmost layer of the elastic tape of the ring body at one side of the shrinkable side opening and 10 capable of being adhered to the outmost layer of the elastic tape at the other side of the shrinkable side opening to enclose the shrinkable side opening. In the sealing ring, the elastic tape is an adhesive tape. In the sealing ring, an adhesive is coated between the adjacent elastic tape layers. In the sealing ring, at least one of opposite surfaces of the shrinkable side opening is 15 coated with an adhesive. In the sealing ring, the ring body has an inner diameter equal to or less than an outer diameter of the cable. According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a cable splicing enclosure, comprising: a bottom cover; a top cover mated with the bottom cover; a receiving 20 portion defined by the bottom cover and the top cover and formed with a cable passage in an end thereof to allow a cable to pass therethrough; and the elastic sealing ring according to any one of -the above embodiments positioned in the receiving portion. In the cable splicing enclosure according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the elastic sealing ring has an outer diameter larger than an inner diameter of the 25 cable passage. According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method of WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 -4 sealing a cable in a cable splicing enclosure, the cable splicing enclosure comprising a bottom cover, a top cover mated with the bottom cover, and a receiving portion defined by the bottom cover and the top cover and formed with a cable passage in an end thereof to allow a cable to pass therethrough, the method comprising following steps of: 5 winding an elastic tape to form an enclosed ring body with adjacent elastic tape layers of the elastic tape being detachably adhered to each other; detaching an extension portion of the elastic tape at a tail end of the outmost layer of the elastic tape from the outmost layer of the elastic tape; cutting the ring body in a radial direction thereof to form a shrinkable side opening 10 radially running through the ring body; expanding the shrinkable side opening to put a part of the cable inside the ring body in the radial direction through the shrinkable side opening; closing the shrinkable side opening and adhering the extension portion onto the outmost layer of the elastic tape cross the shrinkable side opening to enclose the shrinkable 15 side opening and form a sealing ring; placing the sealing ring into the receiving portion; and closing the bottom cover and the top cover to press the sealing ring. In the above method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the elastic tape is an adhesive tape. 20 In the above method according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, an adhesive is coated between the adjacent elastic tape layers. In the above method according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, further comprising a step of peeling at least one layer of elastic tape from an inner side of the ring body after the step of forming the shrinkable side opening so that the peeled 25 ring body has an inner diameter corresponds to an outer diameter of the cable. In the above method according to another exemplary embodiment of the present WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 -5 invention, further comprising a step of coating an adhesive on at least one of opposite surfaces of the shrinkable side opening after the step of expanding the shrinkable side opening and before the step of closing the shrinkable side opening. In various exemplary embodiments of the present invention, since the sealing ring has a 5 shrinkable side opening, a part of the cable can be radially put into a cylindrical space of the sealing ring through the shrinkable side opening without needing to wind an adhesive tape around the cable layer by layer. Furthermore, the inner diameter of the elastic sealing ring can be changed by peeling off the innermost elastic tape from the ring body to conform to various cables with different outer diameters, thereby it can well sealing the cables having 10 different outer diameters. Moreover, after the shrinkable side opening is closed, an extension portion of the outmost layer of the elastic tape is adhered to the sealing ring to effectively enclose the shrinkable side opening. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE 5 IVENTION Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure will be described hereinafter in detail with reference to the attached drawings, wherein the like reference numerals refer to the like elements. The present disclosure may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as being limited to the embodiment set forth herein; rather, these 10 embodiments are provided so that the present disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the concept of the disclosure to those skilled in the art. As shown in Figs.1-7, a cable splicing enclosure 100, for example, an optical cable splicing enclosure, according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail. The cable splicing enclosure 100 mainly comprises a bottom cover 20, a 15 top cover 30 mated with the bottom cover 20, a receiving portion 40 defined by the bottom cover 20 and the top cover 30 and formed with a cable passage 41 in an end thereof to allow a cable 300 to pass therethrough, and an elastic sealing ring 10 placed in the receiving portion 40. As shown in Figs.3-5, in an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the elastic 20 sealing ring 10 mainly comprises a ring body 11 and an extension portion 13. The ring body 11 is formed by winding an elastic tape with adjacent elastic tape layers of the elastic tape being detachably adhered to each other, and the ring body 11 has a shrinkable side opening 12 formed by radially cutting the ring body 11, for example, with scissors or other cutters, and configured to radially run through the ring body 11 so that the cable 300 can be radially 25 put inside the ring body 11 through the shrinkable side opening 12. The extension portion 13 is configured to extend from the outmost layer of the elastic tape of the ring body 11 at one WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 -7 side of the shrinkable side opening 12 and capable of being adhered to the outmost layer of the elastic tape at the other side of the shrinkable side opening 12 to enclose the shrinkable side opening 12 (please see Fig.3 and Fig.7). In other words, the ring body 11 is an unenclosed ring structure with a shrinkable side 5 opening 12, therefore, the ring body 11 has a cross section similar to that of a piston ring. In this way, as shown in Figs.6-7, a part of the cable 300 can be put into an inner cylindrical space of the ring body 11 from a side of the ring body 11 in a radial direction of the ring body 11 through the shrinkable side opening 12, instead of inserting an end of the cable 300 into the inner cylindrical space of the ring body 11 in an axial direction of the ring body 11. 10 Using the unenclosed ring structure with the shrinkable side opening 12, even for a case where the cable 300 is pre-embedded in the cable passage 41 or a case where one part of the cable 300 is cut to be spliced to another cable (not shown) and the other part of the cable 300 is still in a connection state, a part of the cable 300 still can be put into the inner cylindrical space of the ring body 11 from a side of the ring body 11 in a radial direction of 15 the ring body 11 through the shrinkable side opening 12, and then the extension portion 13 is adhered to the outmost layer of the elastic tape to enclose the shrinkable side opening 12. Thereby, it is very simple to assemble and fix the sealing ring 10. Preferably, in the sealing ring 10 of the present invention, the ring body 11 may be formed by winding an adhesive tape with adjacent elastic tape layers of the adhesive tape 20 being detachably adhered to each other. Generally, the ring body 11 may have an inner diameter equal to or less than an outer diameter of a cable that has a smallest outer diameter among the cables to be sealed, that is, the ring body 11 usually has an inner diameter equal to or less than an outer diameter of the cable 300 to be sealed. Accordingly, it may be possible to peel off at least one layer of elastic tape from an inner side of the ring body 11 25 depending on the outer diameter of the cable 300 to be sealed so that the peeled ring body 11 has an inner diameter corresponds to the outer diameter of the cable 300. In this way, the WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 cable 300 may be tightly wrapped by the sealing ring 10 in a case where the sealing ring 10 does not deform seriously. Furthermore, opposite (or facing) surfaces of the shrinkable side opening 12 may be kept in a tight contact state by the extension portion 13 to achieve a reliable seal to the cable 300 with the sealing ring 10. 5 In a further embodiment of the present invention, the elastic tape may be an adhesive tape, thereby the adjacent elastic tape layers can be directly adhered to each other. In an alternative embodiment, the elastic tape may be a non-sticky tape, and an adhesive may be coated between the adjacent elastic tape layers to ensure that they can be adhered to each other. In another further embodiment of the present invention, the outer diameter of the 10 sealing ring 10 is larger than the inner diameter of the cable passage 41, therefore, the sealing ring 10 is pressed by an inner wall of the cable passage 41 to seal the cable passage 41 when the elastic sealing ring 10 for wrapping the cable 300 is placed in the receiving portion 40 immediately adjacent the cable passage 41. Optionally, at least one of opposite surfaces of the shrinkable side opening 12 is coated with an adhesive. In this way, it can 15 further improve the sealing performance of the sealing ring 10. In an exemplary embodiment, the receiving portion 40 may be a cylindrical space defined by recesses formed in the bottom cover 20 and the top cover 30, respectively. The cable passage 41 also may be a cylindrical space defined by recesses formed in the bottom cover 20 and the top cover 30, respectively. When the bottom cover 20 and the top cover 30 20 are closed, the receiving portion 40 is communicated with the cable passage 41 to allow the cable 300 to pass through the cable passage 41. It would be appreciated that the diameter of the cylindrical space of the receiving portion 40 may be larger than the diameter of the cylindrical space of the cable passage 41, for facilitating fixation of the sealing ring 10 in the receiving portion 40. But the present invention is not limited to this, the diameter of the 25 cylindrical space of the receiving portion 40 may be equal to the diameter of the cylindrical space of the cable passage 41, that is, the receiving portion 40 and the cable passage 41 WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 -9 share a common cylindrical space. Hereafter, it will describe the operation of the cable splicing enclosure of the present invention in detail. As described before, the cable splicing enclosure 100 mainly comprises a bottom cover 5 20, a top cover 30 mated with the bottom cover, and a receiving portion 40 defined by the bottom cover 20 and the top cover 30 and formed with a cable passage 41 in an end thereof to allow a cable 300 to pass therethrough. The method of sealing a cable 300 in the above mentioned cable splicing enclosure 100 comprises the following steps of: 10 Firstly, continuously winding an elastic tape to form an enclosed ring body 11 with a plurality of elastic tape layers overlapped with each other and adjacent elastic tape layers being detachably adhered to each other; Secondly, detaching an extension portion 13 of the elastic tape at a tail end of the outmost layer of the elastic tape from the outmost layer of the elastic tape; Generally, the 15 extension portion 13 is a part of the whole elastic tape peeled from the outmost layer of sealing ring 10 and is still connected to the other part of the whole elastic tape; Then, cutting the ring body 11 in a radial direction thereof to form a shrinkable side opening 12 radially running through the ring body 11 (please see Fig.4); For example, putting one blade of scissors inside the enclosed ring body 11 and the other blade of scissors 20 outside the enclosed ring body 11 to cut the ring body 11 so as to form a ring body 11 with the shrinkable side opening 12; or putting a cutter inside the enclosed ring body 11 and placing the blade of the cutter toward outside and exerting a force on the cutter toward outside to cut off the enclosed ring body 11; Preferably, the scissors or the cutter should have a sharp blade to ensure that the opposite (or facing) surfaces of the shrinkable side 25 opening 12 formed by the cutting blade are smooth; In this way, after the ring body 11 is cut off, the opposite surfaces of the shrinkable side opening 12 can be clear, and it can improve WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 -10 the sealing effect to the cable passage 41; Afterwards, as shown in Fig.6, expanding the shrinkable side opening 12 to put a part of the cable 300 inside the ring body 11 in the radial direction through the shrinkable side opening 12; 5 And then, closing the shrinkable side opening 12 and adhering the extension portion 13 onto the outmost layer of the elastic tape cross the shrinkable side opening 12 to enclose the shrinkable side opening 12 and form a sealing ring 10 wrapping on the cable 300 (please see Fig.7); Afterward, placing the sealing ring 10 into the receiving portion 40 (please see Fig.2); 10 and Finally, closing the bottom cover 20 and the top cover 30 to press the sealing ring 10. It would be appreciated that the sealing ring 10 may be pre-formed with a shrinkable side opening 12 with an extension portion 13 being wrapped on the ring body 11 in the factory as shown in Fig.3. When it needs to assemble the sealing ring 10 into the cable 15 splicing enclosure 200, the extension portion 13 can be peeled off the ring body 11. In an alternative embodiment, a sealing ring without the shrinkable side opening 12 may be pre-manufactured in the factory, and when it needs to assemble the pre-manufactured sealing ring into the cable splicing enclosure 200, the operator may peel the outermost layer of the elastic tape of the pre-manufactured sealing ring off the ring body 20 11 to form the extension portion 13, and then cut the ring body 11 to form the shrinkable side opening 12. The method according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention, as shown in Fig.5, may further comprises a step of peeling at least one layer of elastic tape from an inner side of the ring body after the step of forming the shrinkable side opening 12 25 so that the peeled ring body has an inner diameter corresponds to an outer diameter of the cable 300. In this way, after the shrinkable side opening 12 is closed, the opposite surfaces WO 2013/124781 PCT/IB2013/051314 - 11 of the shrinkable side opening 12 can be tightly contact with each other to ensure a reliable sealing of the sealing ring 10 to the cable 300. The method according to another exemplary embodiment of the present invention may further comprises a step of coating an adhesive on at least one of opposite surfaces of the 5 shrinkable side opening 12 to further improve the sealing effect of the sealing ring 10 after the step of expanding the shrinkable side opening 12 and before the step of closing the shrinkable side opening 12. In the cable splicing enclosure 100 according to various exemplary embodiments of the present invention, since the sealing ring 10 has a shrinkable side opening 12, a part of the 10 cable 300 can be radially put into a cylindrical space of the sealing ring 10 through the shrinkable side opening 12 without needing to wind an adhesive tape around the cable 300 layer by layer. Furthermore, the inner diameter of the elastic sealing ring 10 can be changed by peeling off the innermost elastic tape from the ring body 11 according to various cables 300 with different outer diameters, thereby it can well seal the cables 300 having different 15 outer diameters. Moreover, after the shrinkable side opening 12 is closed, an extension portion 13 of the outmost layer of the elastic tape is adhered to the sealing ring 10 to effectively enclose the shrinkable side opening 12. Although it has been described the cable splicing enclosure 100 of the present invention by an example of an optical cable splicing enclosure, it would be appreciated by 20 those skilled in the art that the cable splicing enclosure 100 of the present invention may be an electric cable splicing enclosure for sealing an electric cable. Although several exemplary embodiments have been shown and described, it would be appreciated by those skilled in the art that various changes or modifications may be made in these embodiments without departing from the principles and spirit of the disclosure, the 25 scope of which is defined in the claims and their equivalents.
